Start at the Beginning
Summary: This is a sort of "Doctor Who" meets "Avatar" story, without the avatars.
The Doctor, Amy, and Rory land on a human colony world where the colonists live in gigantic trees. A whole city in the treetops. But what starts out as a lark, ends with a murder, an ancient mystery, and a local race of "not quite intelligent" spider-monkey-like creatures that might have a reason for not quite being intelligent...
Chapter 31 - Epilogue
It took them three days to return to the home tree.
They stopped at the mine to put George into Arnoff’s capable hands, and continued immediately, saying their goodbyes and leaving Darvish and the Brothers to make their reports.
They arrived back at the home tree late at night. Everyone was already asleep, but Sondherson and Emma greeted them and hustled them back up the tree. Fortunately, since they had arrived by shuttle, they didn’t

"I want to give you something," the Doctor said, looking a bit flushed.
River smiled, delighted, he was always giving her gifts, some more alarming than others. "Oh?" she asked eagerly.
He smiled nervously at her tone and shifted side to side like a little boy. He put his hand in his pocket and pulled his closed fist out. "I know you like jewelry, and you always look lovely, and have impeccable taste in jewels. And I know you can buy or steal anything you want..."
She grinned at his nervous monologue, her eyes irresistibly drawn to his hand.
"So I wanted to give you something special," he said, softly, uncommonly serious. He opened his hand, and a blue velvet ribbon spiraled out.
He held the two ends up and motioned toward her, "Can I..?"
"Of course, Sweetie." She lifted up her hair and leaned forward. He fastened the clasp behind her neck, and smoothed the velvet ribbon down over her chest with one warm hand.
She looked down.

BaseballThe Doctor, River, Amy, and Rory play a little baseball, in their own inimitable style...Baseball by Betawhofic
“No batter! No batter! No batter!” the Doctor called through his hands.
River, standing at the plate, her bushy hair pulled back through her cap in a ponytail, bat held high, turned and gave him a sloe-eyed look of retribution over her shoulder.
“Easy out!” the Doctor yelled, grinning.
She popped her gum at him and turned back to the mound. The pitcher threw, the bat hit with a solid crack!
Line drive, right down third base, she tossed her bat and ran flat out for first base.
The Doctor bounced lightly on his bench watching her run. Grinning like a schoolboy.
“What are you doing?” Amy asked. “She’s on our team.”
“I know, just part of the game. It’s fun!” He grinned at her.
“You do know she’s going to kill you, don’t you?” Amy said, staring at him from beneath her own baseball cap, her sleek red h
Eye of the BeholderRiver is gorgeous, but what does she see in the Doctor?Eye of the Beholder by Betawhofic
[Author’s Note: This is rated PG-13, because this is River’s appraisal of the Doctor, and, well, she’s River.]
The Doctor chased Amy through the surf, both of them laughing and screaming. Rory lay on a blanket sunbathing, ignoring the noise.
Above them, River lay on the bluff, her hair camouflaged by the golden brush all around her. They weren’t aware she’d arrived.
She grinned and propped her face on her hands, staring down at her husband. She was aware of the comments the two of them got when they were seen together in public. Some women were jealous that she’d snagged such a “younger” man, others wondered why she’d settled for him.
But she hadn’t settled. She demanded the best, and she got it.
She admitted he did look all gangly and knees and elbows in that tweed and and high water trousers he preferred, but he really wasn’t. She grinned and
